GM 10L control valve body

Repair or Replace the GM 10L Valve Body

A replacement valve body is not the only documented outcome for this failure. There is a factory in-place repair, and an oversized-valve path for bores the factory kit cannot save. Which one applies is decided by two measurements, not by preference.

The repair path

GM's field service procedure repairs the valve body in place, on the vehicle, by replacing the feed limit valve (24059372) with its spring and spacer-plate hardware. The unit returns to service without valve-body replacement.

When is the in-place repair not the right call?

The procedure is eligible only at or above 7,000 miles and only when there is no excessive clutch debris. Applying the kit over debris returns the vehicle for a second failure — with debris present, the correct action is teardown.

When the bore itself is worn

If the bore is worn, a drop-in valve will not hold. Sonnax supplies oversized feed limit valves (105740-54K, 105740-59K, 105740-60K) for the same bore, fitted after the bore is reconditioned.

Vacuum below 8 inches Hg at the balance end is the recorded threshold: under it, the bore is worn and the oversized route with reconditioning is required.

The replacement path

Replacement follows the factory supersession chain into the Gen 3 calibration-specific unit. Independent reman and billet exchange also exist as shipped-unit programs that need no dealer programming, but they are services rather than catalogued assemblies — no assembly part number was established.

How the record frames the choice

The recorded framing turns on warranty exposure and dealer access rather than on price alone. Which of these applies to a particular truck is not something a general page can settle.

  • Still under warranty

The record treats warranty exposure as the first thing that narrows the field, since the GM path remains open while coverage lasts.

  • Out of warranty

Sonnax reconditioning and independent reman both appear in the record as paths that open up once warranty is no longer a factor.

  • Remote from a dealer

Where dealer access is limited, a shipped exchange may become the practical option, since it needs no dealer programming — depending on the vehicle and repair circumstances.

Before choosing a path, confirm

Confirm before you commit

  • Mileage and debris

Both gate eligibility for the in-place repair procedure.

  • Bore condition by vacuum test

This is what separates the drop-in valve from the oversized kit.

  • Who will do the machining

Bore reconditioning is a service and is not part of the parts record.

What this record does not cover

Not covered by the record

Labor times, kit pricing, and any programming step after the repair are not held in the record. The exchange providers are named in the corpus as programs, not as parts, so there is no part number to check for them.

Check this against your vehicle

Start with the number you have and we'll show what's on record for it, including anything documented as an alternative.

This page explains what the record holds about repairing versus replacing. The investigation helps determine which of those documented paths best matches your specific vehicle and circumstances.

Keep going

Everything on this page comes from a documented investigation record. Where the record is silent, the page says so rather than filling the gap. Always confirm fitment, application, and any programming requirement for your specific vehicle before installing.
